Holman had the wonderful opportunity to visit the Bay Area this week to give presentations at Google Tech Corners in Sunnyvale; Lucasfilm (Letterman Digital Arts Center) in The Presidio, San Francisco; and Maker Faire in San Mateo. But the subject of this post is indie booksellers! After Holman visited Google this past Thursday, he did a reading and book signing at The Reading Bug in San Carlos. And after visiting Lucasfilm on Friday, Holman and Chronicle Books’ publicist extraordinaire Lara Starr took to the streets of San Francisco visiting various indie booksellers for stock signings.
Indie booksellers have always been great friends and supporters of Cozy Classics (not to mention Star Wars Epic Yarns!). Nothing beats hand-selling by knowledgeable indie bookstore staff to get the word out about your books! So we’re more than happy to do things like stock signings to help in whatever way we can to move books for indies.
With Holman as a good luck charm, Lara found rock star parking just about everywhere we went (no small feat in the Bay Area)! Here’s a quick look.
On Thursday, it was a trip to The Reading Bug, an absolutely gorgeous kids’ bookstore.
And when illustrator Tom Lichtenheld was asked to sign one of the trees in the store, he cleverly turned it into an elephant!
Here’s Holman presenting “The Making of Star Wars Epic Yarns” to some little fans with mighty Star Wars appetites!
On Friday, we started off with a visit with Summer and her staff at Books Inc., which is the West’s oldest independent bookseller. Its origins go back to the Gold Rush Days of 1851.
Then it was a quick stop at the Green Apple Books location on Clement Street. Ashley at Green Apple has always been a big supporter of Cozy Classics.

Then it was off to Green Apple Books on the Park, their beautiful new location on 9th Avenue.

We received an email from the nice folks at Brilliant Books in Traverse City, Michigan updating us on their picture book bestsellers for the week of May 11, 2015. Star Wars Epic Yarns: A New Hope was #2 on their list, right behind Chu’s Day at the Beach by Neil Gaiman and above Pete the Cat’s Groovy Guide to Life by Kimberly and James Dean.
