October 2016 Roundup

October started off with a bang as Holman headed down to Tacoma, Washington for the Pacific Northwest Booksellers Association‘s fall tradeshow. He signed books for excited booksellers at the Sweet & Greet event on October 1 along with other select Pacific Northwest authors and illustrators.

Holman was able to catch up with friends Kate Berube, Karen Lewis and Michael Schafbuch, whom he met in 2014 at the SCBWI Washington / Oregon Illustrators’ Retreat. It was definitely great to catch up!

Holman then had the great pleasure of speaking at former Vancouver mayor Sam Sullivan’s Public Salon event at the Vancouver Playhouse on October 13. Holman shared his career change story, and talked about embracing “career chaos.” As soon as the video of Holman’s presentation goes up, we’ll share it!

Then, on October 15, Holman was off to the Port Moody Library to help celebrate Star Wars Reads Day. Nobody does Star Wars Reads Day better in the Lower Mainland than the PoMo Library, with costumes, activities, and a visit from the 501st Legion! Here’s the proof!

Holman then gave a Star Wars-themed felting workshop!

Meanwhile, over on the East Coast, Jack lead a special session on the making of our version of Emma and Cozy Classics at the Jane Austen Society of North America’s Annual General Meeting in Washington, DC. The theme of the gathering was Emma at 200: “No One But Herself.”  Jack’s presentation was a smash hit, and he only wished that he could have brought more books to sell as he ran out fast!

Then, while wandering in the Folger Shakespeare Library in Washington, DC, he was thrilled to discover that we were included in an exhibition there called “Will & Jane: Shakespeare, Austen, and the Cult of Celebrity.” Look, there’s our original version of Cozy Classics: Pride & Prejudice in the display case!

What an honour!

Fingers crossed that every month in the future is as fun and exciting as October 2016!
